What I got to do at work

I work in the Bric department at a local Salvation Army Thrift store.  When I went to work Wednesday, one of the managers pulled me out of the back to assist her with the Bric endcaps.  I had not been shown how to do these before.  I spent the majority of my shift with her.  I enjoyed learning about how things should be done.  The pictures are of the 3 endcaps we were able to complete on my shift.  We still have 3 more to do.  I'm looking forward to completing those endcaps.  It was fun to find the perfect items to put on the endcaps.

EXHAUSTED

I usually have Sundays off from work as the store is not open and the people who are working are doing the pull.  However, I got a phone call just after 9:00 this morning asking if I could come in and straighten the Bric department.  Originally I was told I would only be there for about 3 hours.  That turned into 6 hours as after I was done with Bric I assisted in the pull.  I'm feeling muscles I didn't even know where there.  I joked with one of the managers that I have a new appreciation for those who work on Sunday.  I'm just wondering how I'm going to be feeling tomorrow when I'm spending 7 hours digging in gaylords in Bric.

I plan on taking a nice long hot shower tonight and getting to bed early.  We'll see if the early bedtime works out.  Seems every time I plan to do that my body decides to want to stay up late.  Hoping to finish the movie I was watching this morning when I got the phone call.

Popular

There are some days that I will not get any requests for my company.  Yesterday though, I was Miss Popular.  I got off work at 4 pm.  While waiting for my ride I checked my phone.  I had two text messages.  The first one I read was from a bus driver I know who wanted me to ride with her.  Turns out she wanted my opinion on something.  The second was from the friend that I went to lunch with on Wednesday asking if I wanted to get chinese for dinner as she would not have her kids for the night.  I called her and told her that our friend, the bus driver, had beat her to me.  LOL  She stated that she was planning on a later dinner as her kids had not left yet.  We made plans to meet up at the mall when I returned from riding with our friend.

We went to eat at a mutually favorite chinese buffet.  We then headed to the Super K-mart that was nearby.  We enjoyed a relaxing dinner and adult conversation.  We also had some quality "girl time" while shopping.  I didn't get home until just after midnight after being up at 6 am.  It made for a long day at work today but it was fun.

So ready for Spring

I'm really getting sick of Winter.  When I left for work this morning it was 1 degree with a wind chill of -10 degrees.  This is the time of year I start missing my hometown.  Granted they've been hit with some major snowstorms (for them) this Winter.

Had a busy day at work today.  Arrived late as the bus I take to get there was 10 minutes late leaving from the mall.  I clocked in almost 15 minutes late.  Hoping I don't get into trouble.  I don't think I will as this was my first time being late and I've come into work every time they have called me and asked me to come in.

I'm sitting here right now watching Food Network and debating about going to bed early.  I probably will end up staying up at least until Ace of Cakes is over.  It comes on at 10 pm and tonight is the series finale.  I have to say I will miss Duff and his crew.

Spending some time in the D . . . . . . . .

and I'm not talking about Dallas.  I had to go to downtown Detroit today to get a new 31 day pass for the SMART buses.  Because of the weather I had planned on waiting until lunch time to head down.  While passing the time at home I received a text from a good friend asking if I wanted to meet for lunch.  Gave her a call and we coordinated which bus we would meet on.  My friend, her son and I then spent some time in downtown Detroit.  The highlight of the trip for my friend's son was when he got to ride the "choo choo" which is what he calls the Detroit People Mover.  He thinks it's cool that there is no driver on the train.

My friend's son's position for most of the round trip.  The only time he moved was when we were nearing the Detroit River as he wanted to see the water.

Looking up Gratiot Avenue.  I live off this street but in another county.

O Canada!  Looking across the Detroit River at Windsor, Ontario, Canada

Looking out the front of the train at the Ambassador Bridge in the distance. The Ambassador Bridge is the only place where you actually go South to go to Canada.  Just a little piece of trivia for you.

Joe Louis Arena (home of the Detroit Red Wings) with some of the Detroit skyline

Rosa Parks Transit Center.  This is the main transfer point for most of the D-DOT buses that arrive in the downtown area and the Gratiot and Van Dyke routes from SMART.

Some of the artwork in the Times Square station.  There is artwork of different types in each of the stations.  I used to have pictures of it all but need to rephotograph them.  Hopefully one day soon I will be able to post about the art in the stations.  There are many hidden gems in City of Detroit.

One such gem my friend and I discovered today was the Motown Cafe.  They are a small place with maybe 20 seats.  I think they do the majority of their business as carryout.  I had what was listed as 21 popcorn shrimp combo which came with fries and a side of coleslaw.  The shrimp were the biggest "popcorn" shrimp I'd ever seen.  The coleslaw was very yummy.  Not sickingly sweet like most places that serve it.  All I did was add some black pepper to it.  Fries were perfectly done and were seasoned with a seasoning combo.  Still trying to figure out what all was in it.

Well, it's getting near time for the UNC vs Duke game to start.  Need to go get a small bit of dessert before settling in to watch it.

Take care all.

Baby, It's cold outside.....

Woke up this morning to the temperature being 12 with a wind chill of -5.  Was not a pleasant trip to work this morning.  Got home about 5 pm and am staying in the rest of the night.  I'm off work tomorrow but do have some errands to run.  I will probably wait until around lunchtime to go out as to avoid the extreme cold in the morning as we are expected to be 5 overnight.

I am also in the process of changing phone companies for my cell phone.  If all goes well, I should have it all done tomorrow.  A friend of mine is changing her phone and is going to give me her old phone.  Her old phone is the one that I was planning on buying.

My "Big Game" is this Wednesday

I was born and raised in North Carolina.  I have always cheered for the UNC Tarheels.  I do appreciate Coach K from Duke but will not root for Duke unless they have gone farther in a tournament than UNC.

This Wednesday will be the first meeting of the season for these two teams.  I already have the cable box set to autotune to it. This year's meeting will be a bit more interesting as my new beau is a Duke fan.  We have already been trash talking with each other.  I sent him the above picture.  I will be supporting my Heels by wearing my Michael Jordan throwback jersey.
